For over a year now, mechanical keyboards have been such a fun hobby for me to indulge in. Although I’m completely satisfied with the Bauer I had commissioned back in May, I’ve always wanted to learn how to solder and put together a keyboard myself. With the Chimera65 fulfilled and just sitting in my closet, I decided it would be a good time to finally learn how to do just that. In addition to my first time soldering, I decided to try lubing and filming the switches as well. …

It was always going to be a difficult task for the game that followed FF7, but this recent re-play of FF8R reminded me why I loved this game so much growing up. Perhaps it’s nostalgia hitting me hard, but as the second FF game I played as a youngster, I have always been very fond of the graphics, story, and music of FF8. With the game recently remastered on PS4 in Sep 2019 by Square Enix, it was just the catalyst I needed for me to do my first playthrough in over 10 years.

The first thing that came to mind when playing the FF12:TZA on PS4 was: wow, I wish I continued playing this when it was first released on PS2 in 2006. The oldest memories I have of this game involved running through sewers and worrying about these “forbidden” chests that I was not supposed to loot if I wanted the Zodiac Spear. Fast forward 14 years later and I must admit that I’ve enjoyed FF12 more than I thought I would! …

Update 07Jul2020: What great timing — today marks the 20th anniversary of FF9’s release!

The ninth installment of the Final Fantasy series was one that eluded me for reasons I can’t really pinpoint. I remember getting a burned copy of the game on PSX around 2000–01, but having to compete with my older brother for game time left me around the Evil Forest on my first playthrough. Despite playing maybe an hour tops, FF9’s cast of characters still stood out as iconic to me. …

I don’t think there’s a role-playing game that represents my generation better than Final Fantasy VII. When it was first released in 1997, I remember browsing through my video game magazine and wondering what an RPG was. Luckily, my parents bought me a copy of the game at our local K-Mart and one very long (Game Shark-hacked) playthrough later, I was blown away at the sheer enormity of the adventure. Iconic characters + memorable music = maybe the best first RPG experience I could’ve asked for. When the Remake was announced, I decided with a few friends to re-play the…

Building a PC was a satisfying triumph for me, but one thing that I did not anticipate was it sending me down the rabbit hole of custom mechanical keyboards. There is a wealth of knowledge on various forums, YouTube channels, and Discord servers just waiting to be read and absorbed. Having no experience at all until October 2019, I took quite a bit of time reading up on the various layouts, switches, and materials that all affect the feel and sound of the typing experience. Ready to take the plunge, here’s what I decided on for the build.

Case — Bauer by Dixie Mech

The Bauer

When WoW: The Burning Crusade first came out in 2007, I used to have a gaming PC that a friend spec’d out and put together for me. After using a Dell Inspiron laptop my first two years in college, I was amazed that WoW could look this good at 60 FPS! Two Gladiator titles and many years later, that PC hit the dump and I’ve been using the first generation 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro for casual gaming and daily computing ever since.

With the release of WoW Classic, a few of the old guildies/RL friends decided to renew and…
